The AANS is the largest organization of board-certified neurosurgeons in the world. "Fellow" status (FAANS) is the highest membership designation, granted only to neurosurgeons who have completed accredited training, hold board certification, and have demonstrated sustained contribution to the specialty. It is a recognition voted by peers — not a credential one can apply for unilaterally.

The CNS is the second pillar of North American neurosurgery, complementary to the AANS. Fellowship status requires the same rigorous peer evaluation and represents an additional layer of academic credibility. Holding both FAANS and FCNS places a neurosurgeon among an internationally recognized elite in the specialty.

NASS is the most influential multidisciplinary spine society in the world, bringing together neurosurgeons, orthopedic spine surgeons, physiatrists, and pain management specialists. Membership signals an active commitment to evidence-based spine care and ongoing education in the latest surgical techniques and clinical guidelines.

AOSpine is the global spine division of the AO Foundation, the world's most prestigious organization in surgical education. Dr. Avila completed an AOSpine Observership at Queen's Hospital, Nottingham, UK — a selective program offered to surgeons identified for clinical excellence.

AMCICO is the official national society of spine surgeons in Mexico. Active membership requires board certification in either neurosurgery or orthopedic surgery with a sub-specialty focus on the spine, plus continuous academic activity. It is the local equivalent of NASS.

The CMCN is the official board of neurosurgery in Mexico — equivalent to the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS) in the U.S. Board certification requires written and oral examinations after an accredited residency, plus periodic recertification.
